THE HARVEST
STORIES OF AGRICULTURAL LABOUR EXPLOITATION IN ITALY
The Harvest is the docu-musical about the life of the Sikh community, which lives in the countryside of Agro Pontino, victim of illegal hiring and forced to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
Interviews to Sikh workers and employees working in this sector will be accompanied by music and dances from the traditional bhangra, thanks to the participation of the Indian group "BhangraVibes".
In fact, it is through the artistic expedient of the musical that the director Andrea Paco Mariani wants to denounce the absurdity of the use of doping in the fields to survive the fatigue of work.
With the participation of Andrea “Paco” Mariani, director, Marco Omizzolo, sociologist and scientific director of the association In Migrazione. It will be possible to support the film and become co-producer directly during the event.
SMK Videofactory is an independent film studio founded in 2009 in Bologna by a group of media activists. During these years SMK produced mainly social-focused documentaries and investigative reports. SMK firmly believes in the new crowdfunding production mechanisms and that a different way to produce audiovisuals is possible. The first crowdfunding project dates back to 2011 for the movie “Tomorrow’s Land“. From that moment on, SMK produced a sequence of documentaries through crowdfunding campaigns: “Kosovo vs Kosovo” (2012), “Una follia effimera” (2012), “Green Lies” (2014), “Vite al Centro” (2014), “Quale Petrolio?” (2016). In the wake of the experience of Tomorrow’s Land self-distribution, SMK founds in 2013 Distribuzioni dal Basso, the internet portal which supports the distribution of audiovisual works of rising directors and independent film studios from all around Italy.
