BEYOND THE BURQA
Sahra Mosawi | Afghanistan | 2012 | 20'
Observational documentary showing the life of women in Bamiyan, the only city having a woman Mayor in Afghanistan. "Beyond the burqa" follows two illiterate Afghan women victims of child marriage. Willing to build a better future for themselves and their children, Nikbakht and Salma decide to study and look for financial freedom. Two stories of brave women willing to change a patriarchal culture allowing just men to take study and work opportunities. This is the meaning of the tagline of the movie: "Educate a boy, and you educate an individual. Educate a girl, and you educate a community".
