HARRAGUANTANAMO
GIULIA BONDI, ILYESS BEN CHOUIKHA
ITALIA | 2011 | 5’ |TTFF11
Ilyess, 30 years old, comes from Zarzis (Tunisia) and has documented his trip as an harraga – an illegal migrant – in 70 pictures shooted with his phone between March 28th and April 17th 2011. From the crossing to Lampedusa, between emergency and reception, until a tent city where he has lived for 13 days. “Like in Guantanamo”, he says; not enough water for 700 people to shower, between attempts to escape and constantly living in a condition of uncertainty about his destiny.
Giulia Bondi, journalist and videomaker freelance (partiallyfree.wordpress.com), she collaborates with Galatea, Terre di mezzo, Il Mucchio, the press office of Modena Municipality. Her works have been published on L'Espresso, Peacereporter e and the tv show Rai Protestantesimo
Ilyess ben Chouikha is born in Zarzis (Tunisia), where he worked as painter and decorator and he then moved to Paris.
