TWO AT THE BORDER

Tuna Kaptan, Felicitas Sonvilla | Germany | 2013 | 30'

"Two at the Border” is a documentary about the day-to-day life of two human traffickers, one Syrian and one Palestinian, at the border between Greece and Turkey. Their work is becoming even more risky with the strengthening of 13km of the border near Edirne (Turkey), and the military crackdown on illegal immigration in Europe. The huge militarisation that is underway to patrol borders and prevent the flow of refugees makes the trade in human beings increasingly complex and dangerous. Camera enter the apartment of two young traffickers, Ali and Naser, where they discuss their families and prepare their escape plan for Turkish refugees. It is a blind and desperate choice, for them and for those who are trying to get to Greece. The documentary was nominated at IDFA in Amsterdam in 2013.
