SEXY MONEY

Karin Junger | Netherlands | 2014 | 75' | out of competition

In recent years, a growing number of prostitutes coming from West Africa settled in the surburbs of the cities, both in the Netherlands and in the rest of Europe. Women come here to escape from poverty, looking for a better life and new perspectives. But for most of them the European adventure is a disappointment ending when they fly back to Nigeria whithout anything.

Karin Junger grew up in Belgium and is currently living in the Netherlands. She attended secondary school in Brussels, studying French language and literature and Communication at the University of Amsterdam and specialising in drama at the Maurits Binger Film Institute in Amsterdam. Her first documentary was awarded by Joris Ivens, her fiction films were awarded at the Berlinale and at the Dutch Festival. Her work has a strong social commitment. In 2006 she made the first musical urban movie in the Netherlands.

In collaboration with Gender Bender

Once again this year the festival comes to an end with the presentation of a feature film out of competition, previewed in Bologna in collaboration with Gender Bender, an international Festival introducing the Italian public to the new imagery related to gender identity, sexual orientation and body representation stemming from contemporary culture. Gender Bender, organized by Il Cassero gay lesbian center of Bologna, for its 12° edition (from October, 25 to November, 01 in Bologna) it's time to super heroes. The festival is the perfect opportunity to show the world and the uniqueness of desires and identities. It's time to reveal those particular characteristics that make each of us special and super. It is a real model of how differences can give a contribution to the construction of a more rich and welcoming society from the human, social and cultural point of view.
