OFICINA DE ARTE

Miko Meloni | Italy, Mozambique | 2014 | 45' | out of competition

Whilst the cries of hundreds of kids echo around the classroom walls, Latifo, Ornilda, Claudia and Riquito meet outside the Natite school in Pemba, in the north of Mozambique. Under the branches of a great tree, they share the new poems and pictures that they have created during the week, which they present on Saturdays to Dickson, Tadeo, Isabel and Mahiriri, the artists that attend their art lessons. “Oficina de Arte” recounts the the art education provided by GVC and the Reggio Emilia council as part of the EDUCA project in the Natite primary school in Pemba in Mozambique. The video was produced thanks to funding from the Emilia Romagna region.

Miko Meloni is a specialist in producing social documentaries, and is the writer, amongst other works, of “Indignados. Como nace una protesta” (2011), selected for the LIDF London International Documentary Festival 2012, and of “Alpaqueros de apurimac”, supported by the NGO GVC and selected for DocInTour.

The EDUCA project, financed by the EU and produced by the Reggio Emilia council in collaboration with GVC, was created with the aim of improving the standard of living and social integration in Italy (Reggio Emilia), Mozambique (Pemba) and Brazil (Belo Horizonte), particularly concentrating on the education of children (0-18 years) and supporting actions that promote the importance of social workers and community.
