NOT MY LAND
Alyona Surzhikova | Estonia | 2013 | 52'
There are many different stories of people who came to Estonia during the Soviet time to work at Dvigatel factory. These workers received allotments near the factory and the airport for growing vegetables. During more than thirty years these families have been cultivated these lands, built small summerhouses and trade allotments with each other. The story of their allotment gardens is an allegory of the fall of the Soviet Union, as seen through their eyes. Nowadays bulldozers are coming: the allotments will be destroyed, because of technical "progress".
After her studies in TV direction and video-making, Alyona Surzhikova, born in 1982, specialized in documentary direction at Saint Petersburg State University for Film Industry and Television. She realizes TV programs and documentaries for Estonian channels ETV and Kanal2. Moreover, she works for Russian channels Kanal Kultura and TV5.
