"La follia degli altri" (The madness of others) deals with the theme of migration and psychic suffering, casting an unprecedented glance at a central, yet not discussed subject.Francesco Merini describe the issue by retracing the experience of his father Alberto, one of the first psychiatrists to deal with the psychological trauma entailed by migration. In 1994, for the first time, he treated an African patient and, as the years went by, many others followed him. Alberto Merini realized that society was facing a historical change and, from that moment forward, his professional career was marked by a fundamental question: how can someone’s mental issues can be cured if their cultural horizons are completely different than ours?

Francesco Merini was born and studied in Bologna where he graduated in History of Art from the Dams. Director and screenwriter, he has directed films, documentaries and short films. He worked a lot of music, directing live music by Lucio Dalla, Stefano Bollani, Eugenio Finardi and Mariposa. He has also shot video clips including I made a dream of Vasco Rossi.
