THE HARVEST
Andrea Paco Mariani | Italy | 2017 | 73''
Gurwinder comes from Punjab, for years he has been working as a farm worker in the Agro Pontino greenhouses. Since he arrived in Italy, he lives with the rest of the Sikh community in the province of Latina. Hardeep is also Indian, but she speaks with a Roman accent, and works as a cultural mediator. She was born and raised in Italy, seeks redemption from the memories of a family who has emigrated to another era. Him he is forced, against the rules of his own belief, to take methamphetamines and doping substances to withstand the heavy rhythms of work and send the money in India. A docu-musical that, for the first time, combines the language of the documentary with the choreography of the Punjabi dances, telling the humiliation of the workers exploited by the employers and the corporals. Two stories that intertwine in the course of a day, from the first hours of light in which work begins in the countryside to the evening prayer at the community temple. A hard job of sowing, done day after day, whose deserved harvest, including residence permits to be renewed and fake pay slips, seems to be still far away.
Meeting with Paco Mariani, Marco Omizzolo and Parsifal Reparato.
