I QUILOMBOS DELL'IGUAPE: UNA STORIA DI VITA, DI TERRA, DI DIRITTI
di Lula Oliveira, Brazil, 2018, 17'
The quilombolas are direct descendants of the African people enslaved for centuries in Brazil, until the late "false" abolition of slavery in 1888. One hundred years later, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Brazil recognizes their right to land, to those lands that the communities have always inhabited. Their legal struggle for collective ownership is also a struggle to resist the expansion of large companies and private interests that increasingly threaten the environmental, cultural and social balance of communities. The video, through interviews with the various members of the communities of the Reconcavo Baiano, tells the past and the present of their history.
The video was produced as part of the Project Terra di Diritti: support for the defense and protection of civil and political rights of the communities descending from the Quilombos communities of the Recôncavo Baiano, made by Cospe Onlus in partnership with Centro de Educação and Cultura Vale do Iguape and with Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia, with the contribution of the European Union and the Eight for Thousand of the Waldensian Church.
