LA GUERRA CONTRA LAS MUJERES
Hernàn Zin | Spain, USA | 2014 | 60'
Three years in ten countries and more than a hundred interviews in a dozen languages to give voice to women subjected to war-related sexual violence. A condemnation of the passivity of the world towards the use of women’s body as a battlefield. A celebration of these women that find the strength to carry on with their lives; a way to pay homage to the courage of raising voices for these events not to happen anymore. Hernàn Zin goes to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2008 to see at first-hand the suffering of women victims of rape. He goes back in 2009 and 2010, to show the evolution of excruciating stories like Vumilia’s, Jane’s or Jeannette’s. The documentary collects the stories of these women that found the courage to tell themselves in front of a video camera.
Hernàn Zin was born in Buenos Aires in 1971, he produced and directed more than 20 documentaries in more than 40 countries of Asia, Latin America and Africa. War and poverty are the main subjects of his work. In 1997 he realised his first documentary "Calcuta, vida en la estacion de la muerte". Some of his most recent works are "Slum World" (2009), the documentaries "Mujeres que cambian el mundo" and "Quiero ser Messi" (2013), awarded by National Geographic.
