CENNETIN DUSUSU (THE FALL OF HEAVEN)
Ersin Kana | Turkey | 2014 | 79' | out of competition
Istanbul, June 2013: the biggest protest against Erdogan's neoliberal policies began. The protests broke out initially against the urban development plan of Gezi Park, a public park of 616 trees in the heart of Taksim Square, in Istanbul. The peaceful protest, followed by the occupation of thousands of people in Gezi park, resulted in violent clashes with the police in the next few weeks. The protests quickly propagated in all the squares of Turkish major urban centres. The documentary begins with the sentence: "Let justice arrive falling from the heaven" and depicts the protest since its beginning.
Ersin Kana shot his first documentary "Asi Ruh" in 2008, from which a book was published. In 2009 he wrote the screenplay for "Denizden Gelen" ("Those who come from the sea"), directed by Nesli Colgecen. The first film written and directed by Kana in 2012 is "Hile Yolu" ("The Way of Deception"), focused on the assassination of the Armenian journalist Hrant Dink turkish. "Cennetin Dususu" ("The fall of heaven") is the third project of Ersin Kana.
