ABOUT GAZA

Simone Camilli e Pietro Bellorini | Italy, Palestine | 2011 | 21' | out of competition

After a look backward to Gaza history at the time of Philistines (the ancient name of the inhabitants of "Filistin", Arabic name of Palestine) until the establishment of Israel, Pietro Bellorini and Simone Camilli document the difficult everyday life in Gaza Strip. The images of Simone Camilli remain in full force and delicacy, as well as the faces and the sounds, the time flying during long years of injustice and suffering, the voices and dramatic stories of the protagonists. In addition to his death 'on the field', who is always near to people having chosen the war journalism, Simone's frames continue to tell stories. The authors have documented with suggestive and touching pictures the scarce living conditions of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.

Simone Camilli, 35 years old photojournalist, died on August 13 while he was filming an attempt to defuse an unexploded ordnance in the Gaza Strip, just after the bomb attack of Gaza Strip by Israel. He was collaborating with "Associated Press" and he worked in the Middle East, Turkey and the Balkans.

Pietro Bellorini was born in 1982 and graduated in Cinema at the University of Bologna in 2007. He’s a member of “Ipotesi Cinema" workshop directed by Ermanno Olmi. Since 2006 he has directed 5 short documentaries. He lives in Jerusalem since 2008, where he worked at making documentaries and videos for several international organizations.
