Quit India

Alice Concari, 2006, Italy, 13’

In the South of India peasants are forced to leave their lands to give space to intensive breeding of prawns. Quit India, is the motto with which two Gandhy disciples Krishnammal and Jagannathan oppose Tamil Nadu to this form of economic dominion that destroys the primary resources and deconstructs social tissue. Replacing millenary rice fields with intensive breeding factories, you eradicate people’s identity. Western consumers are additional victims that buy this products, unknowing the story behind them.
