TTFF 2013 stirs anticipation

Four stories from the next Terra di Tutti Film Festival in Bologna:

Beirut Photographer - In 1981, George Azar, a Lebanese-American, crossed the Syrian border into Lebanon taking photographs. But within a few months Israel attacked Lebanon and war broke out.

Suddenly immersed in a world of gunfire and terror in an unfamiliar city, George chronicled the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) guerillas, teenage snipers and civilians living through what became one of the bloodiest summers in the history of the modern Middle East.

Now, 30 years on, he returns to Beirut, retraces his steps and unpicks the stories and people behind some of his most iconic photographs - those that were published and many of which were unseen at the time.

Inside Apple - Take a dive into Chinese electronic gadget manufacturing companies. Foxconn is such a big deal for China that anything around it is a national issue. The subcontractor singlehandedly employs 1 million persons in China and stands for a third of Chinese exports. Suicide, exhaustion and pollution: this is what Apple and other brands are trying so hard to hiden.

Not my land - The Soviet Union dissolved almost 20 years ago, but the system has not changed for old people. New life is a possibility only for the newer generations. Destroying allotments rearranges peoples' lives. People can't be forced into learning to live in a new way. Land left empty, houses falling apart reflect the feelings of Russians living in Estonia: you're at home, yet you're homeless, your system is not part of the general system.

Il rifugio - Since the beginning of 2011, due to the situation in North Africa, more than 50,000 people have arrived by boat to the Italian island of Lampedusa. 13,000 of them were deported to Africa and 15,000 received refugee status, while 22,000 were received in "inadequate" structures pending recognition status. Winner of the IA Doc Prize at Premio Ilaria Alpi, one of the most important italian festival on documentary and video journalism.
