IL RIFUGIO
Luca Cusani, Francesco Cannito | Italy | 2012 | 56'
July 2011: 116 refugees from Libya are transferred from Lampedusa in a spooky ski resort in the Alps, Montecampione, in Valle Camonica. They form part of the "human bomb" that Gaddafi threatened to throw against Europe at the beginning of the war: emigrated from their country of origin (Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, etc..) and arrived in Libya before the outbreak of the conflict with prospects of a new life, the immigrants were forced to flee a second time to escape mandatory conscription in the army of mercenaries in pay of the regime or the lynching by the local population that has come to identify every coloured person as supporter of the dictatorship.
Luca Cusani and Francesco Cannito have followed their lives for a year, until the day in which the Commission on asylum seekers decided whether or not to grant to these people the status of political refugee and welcome them in our Country.
Trained at the School of Cinema in Milan, Luca Cusani has made several television services collaborating with Report, Le invasioni barbariche, and RAINEWS 24. Hw produces and realises long-duration documentaries for the foreign market and his documentary "Cry Sea" has received numerous international awards.
Author and director, Francesco Cannito, after a training at the DAMS of Bologna, produces television commercials and documentaries, among the latter "Vivamazzonia", winner of several festival. His short Neon won the Genova Film Festival 2004, and the award for Best Short at Venice Circuito Off in 2004.
