CUENTOS DE EL CANAL
Laboratorio Canalizando mi barrio | Italy/Cuba | 2013 | 28' | out of competition
"Cuentos de el canal" is a collective work, created during the audiovisual workshop held by D.E-R Association of Emilia-Romagna Documentarists in collaboration with GVC. Filmed in Havana in july 2013, “Cuentos de el canal” consists of three short documentaries dedicated to three different points of view on El Canal, a suburb of the Cuban capital. The work is the result of the workshop Canalizando Mi Barrio, led by Joan Cane, Marco Mensa and Elisa Mereghetti, which was attended by twenty people of different ages. The story of El Canal, the passions of the young people, the Afro-Cuban religion: those are the topics chosen by the participants for the three short documentaries. A collective work, lively and spontaneous, made of intuition, experimentation and, above all, original ideas.
Joan Cane, after a degree in Economics at the University of California, initially works at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood focusing on International marketing. She becomes producer for Granada Television and Cine-Cinema. She's now production manager for Movie Movie and coordinator for cinema and television.
Marco Mensa, director of photography and photographer, works in the television industry since 1980, dealing in particular with social, anthropological, historical and natural subjects. He works as director of photography for several reports and documentaries for RAI and NGOs. He also directed numerous commercials and campaigns.
Elisa Mereghetti, director and documentary filmmaker, has produced dozens of documentaries in anthropological, social, natural and historic fields, commissioned by Rai and by several international associations and organizations. Among others: her documentary "Eyes Wide Open" on AIDS orphans in Malawi, and "The waters of Chenini " produced by COSPE.
