CAMERA-WOMAN
Karima Zoubir | Morocco | 2012 | 59'
Among enthusiastic musicians, at a wedding party we meet Khadija, a Moroccan divorcee woman working in Casablanca as wedding film operator.
Despite the criticism from his mother and brother, who would like her to re-marry and reproach her for being always out of the house, so feeding rumours among the neighbourhood, Khadija is determined not to give in to their requests.
Together with the best friend Bouchra, separated herself, Khadija shows us the difficulties that a divorced woman is forced to face in Morocco and beyond.
"Camera/Woman" documents the sharp contrast between the fairy world of weddings, the actual difficulties of marriage and the reality of divorce, highlighting the lack of gender equality in the Country.
Director and producer, Karima Zoubir works as a freelance filmmaker since 2005, the year she graduated at the Casablanca University. In the same year she participates in a course on Film Direction held by Martin Scorsese and Abbes Kairostami. In recent years she took part in workshops such as the Berlinale Talent Campus and Greenhouse.
In 2012 his "Camera/Woman" is selected for the IDFA's Mid-Length Award, won the Academy Award Worldview and the Puma Creative Catalyst Award.
