Solo andata, il viaggio di un touareg
Fabio Caramaschi | 2010 | Italy | 52’
Two very young Touareg brothers, Sidi and Alkassoum, born in the desert of Niger, find themselves separated from their fate of migrants. The youngest, Alkassoum, remains blocked in Africa for years because of problems of reunification, while the oldest, Sidi, grows up in Friuli with the rest of his family and the small Touareg community in Pordenone. The identity of Sidi is today divided by the desire to integrate himself into the new industrial reality of the Italian north-east and the nostalgia of immense spaces, simple and free life in African childhood by now far away. To affront his doubts and his fears, it is Sidi himself using the camera in order to discover our world and at the same time revealing his own. The “inquest” of Sidi reaches a fundamental turning point when Alkassoum, the younger brother left in Africa, is able to reunite himself with his family.
Fabio Caramaschi, author of numerous documentaries, anthropologic films, television programs, documentations of NGO projects, short films, reportages and photographic books, for ten years has realized above all photographic reportage for agencies and magazines, to then pass on to large format photography in landscape and portrait. His feature-length documentaries, winners of numerous awards in national and international festivals, tend to involve the protagonist of the story in a process of auto representation that interweaves with the narrative body.
