In 1975, the territories of the Western Sahara, Spanish ex-colony, were military occupied by Morocco and they became theatre of the war between Morocco and Sahrawi’ population. This war ended in 1991. Since then, United Nations recognized to Sahrawi the right to self-determination. This right would have been exercise through a referendum, which still has not been made. The documentary recount the life of a population in exile for thirty years, fled to the desert of neighboring Algeria and claiming their independence struggle against a state that does not recognize it and that rejects its specificity. Day after day, this population tries to survive thanks to humanitarian helps and to its determination to assert its identity. This population is confined to refugees camps just a few hundred miles from its own land and they are forcibly divided from it because of a wall of 2.500 km  built in the desert by Moroccan forces. Sahrawi everyday life is told by a young Italian woman that takes part to a ten years project of international solidarity, called Saharawi Marathon. This marathon becomes a metaphor of the gradual path of the woman who comes to face the great issues of human nature: surviving, integrity of one’s identity, fighting for freedom.
